Feeding the farm chooks!

Kangaroo prints
It rained quite heavily here last night. We had to go out to the farm to feed the farm chickens. We have chickens here too but Mr M keeps some at the farm and he is away this week. As we didn't have any chance of being helped out with the excavator if we got bogged, I decided we should park the car and walk in, give the dog (Barney) a run at the same time.

We fed the chickens, watered the plants, had a play then set out on the walk out, this time a different track. By the time we had got to the car we realized we had lost Barney along the way. Had to go all the way back to the barn and here he was having a sleep! And I was thinking he was chasing a rabbit! He had me worried. It would be terrible to loose him while his Dad is away!

I enjoyed the walk and took these photos with the phone. It was different to when I was there the other day. Not so hot. More bird noises than bugs, the moisture still there but not as humid. I just wondered how I can get a 4 year old to stop whining and live in another more enjoyable moment. What happened to finding a stick, a bug, stamp on an ants nest, climb a tree. I fear we have been looking at too much TV, perhaps staying in our comfort zone too much. My new resolution....get out more!!

A few wet photos

This time last week I had to leave my car on the road and walk in to pick up the kids at the farm because of the water. I have lost count of the times I had to walk in the last few months. We have had so much rain!! This is the first opportunity I have had to post them. I must say I don't have a very good camera, just a daggy old point and press. I have found my beloved iphone is just as good and I always have it with me. I have a manual SLR that was an insurance replacement years ago but I don't use it much. I dream of the day I can get myself a digital one!! Anyway, I apologize for the poor quality of my photos but I hope you get the idea.

These are the after shots by the way. It was much worse. I love walking in here. This day was different though, It was humid, warm. You could feel, smell, hear the moisture in the air. How can you hear moisture you ask? The bugs. Wet bugs make a different sound. It was so noisy and yet peaceful. It amazes me how each time I go here the atmosphere is different. It inspires me every time. A 10 min walk to change the day. We have to go out tomorrow to feed the chooks. Mr M is away for the week. I wonder what the place will be then? I will let you know....

Dolls for Qld

I never found my scissors, so off to spotlight I went. I had no idea what sort to get. I knew I should spend more money and get good ones but I ended up with a 3 pack in the middle of the range. How disappointed I am! They are nowhere near as sharp as my old ones! I'm hoping the old ones will turn up!
So I was able to make the dolls and they'll be off to Qld tomorrow along with an owl.

I'm not a very good sewer so they are not perfect but I hope someone will like them!

Sun room

I have a tiny room at the back of my house which I laughingly call the "sun room". It is really a boot room/freezer room/place to drop things on the floor. The dog's bed is here so it usually smells of dog.

Today though it smells like something has died.... What is that smell? Do you think it's time I tidied? I feel like my day has been spent looking for things. I have got some material together to sew some dolls for the flood relief. (see previous post) Now I can't find my scissors anywhere!! If I can't find them I can't cut fabric and therefore I can't make the dolls!! Will I have to buy new ones?
In other news, our baby chick is growing

We call it Sooty. I think it might be a rooster. It should be called Sooky Bubba because every time you go near it it squawks and really carries on. Eliza says I can't call it that cos I will hurt it's feelings. See how our grass has grown? Do you think I need to mow?
Well, I'm off to do some more searching for these damned scissors. Otherwise we're off to spotlight!!

Floods

My last 2 posts seem so trivial and self centered when there is so much going on up in Qld. I used to live in Brisbane. It is just so unbelievable that can happen in such a major city! So many people are doing things on their blogs towards the relief effort. Fantastic! People are just fantastic!

Pay it forward

I was on night duty last night and I had a few minutes for checking out some blogs. Saw this Pay It Forward on the Rourke and Henry Blog. I think it is a great idea and it will be a challenge for me! I think it was so late at night I was one of the first 5 to comment!! So now it is my turn to give the same offer. Leave a comment and I will send something handmade to the first 5. (make sure you include email so I can contact you)
Two posts in one night!! It's a record.

Nomination

I have been nominated for a Stylish Blogger Award by Kimberly from KJP Designs! Thanks Kimberly. Considering I thought that I was pretty much talking to myself on my blog, this is very exiting for me! I am such a novice at this that I hope I do it right! Now I've managed to get the picture on here I have to share 7 things about myself:
  1. I love peanut butter and honey toast
  2. I am a terrible procrastinator
  3. I am enjoying Mad Men at the moment
  4. I also still have my Christmas tree up
  5. I don't feel right knitting in summer
  6. I have a thing for the number 8
  7. I traveled to India when I was younger and found it unforgettable in every way!
  8. I don't really like odd numbers
My next task will be the hardest: Pass it on to 15 recently discovered great Bloggers. Does that mean recently discovered by me or the world? Here goes:
Well! I think I've done it. I know I only have 14 but as I said I don't like odd numbers. Now I just have to contact all these people which I actually feel a bit shy about. That is tomorrow's job I think...

there are 4 duties to perform to accept the award
one....thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award
two...share 7 things about yourself
three...pay it forward to 15 recently discovered great bloggers
four...contact these bloggers and tell them about the award

Dilema!

I have a decision to make. I have been in my house for over 10 years. A few cosmetic changes have been made over the years but not everything! It is a late 40s brick, sort of deco (?) I am sure others would have made it groovy. I had big plans then kids came along and money and space have been the issue. So I have just been living here. I still have the same old metal venetians and light fittings. (see photo) I have always hated this light that sits over our dining room table. It pulls down so you can play bridge! So now I have money to replace this and the lounge one in the adjoining room. There are so many possibilities that I am having trouble deciding. They should really be matching but the dining room is our work space. We do writing, crafts etc here so I need something that shines a good light. I guess I need to go looking!

New Books

I was given a new book for Christmas (by request) : I have been looking at it in the shop for a while and am so pleased I got it. Sew La Tea Do
She has a pattern for an easy hat in there so that will be my first project seeing as I have lost my hat.
So, last week it was my birthday and I'd asked for money to get some new light fittings (later story) We were at Dad's for dinner last night and I just couldn't help popping into their local bookshop (The Avenue) and getting 2 more books: Spaces and  Meet Me At Mikes I love them both!!

(Now I have added the photo I've realized it is sideways and I don't know how to fix it!)

Hair makes you feel better

Before

After
I got my hair cut yesterday for the first time in months. It makes me feel so much better!! I tried a new hairdresser and she was great. I just couldn't believe how much it cost. No wonder I do it so rarely.
I am still having trouble putting photos where I want them on the page!
I have been reading lots of posts about New Year resolutions. I was thinking about it myself and I know I am not much good at sticking to them. I've decided therefore to choose one thing to focus on:
I want to be more fun!
I have started realizing that I can be quite controlling around the house and quite boring in social situations. I have lost my spontaneity and sense of fun. The kids often get quite a pleasant surprise if I am suddenly playful and not grumpy. Their Dad is so much more fun than me. So that can be my focus for the year!!
I also have been thinking that I need to BE who I want to BE! In a way I mean to "be the change I want" I think this topic can be saved for another time: A late night, peaceful, quiet, thinking time, not a morning, TV on, noisy, windy time like this morning. Now for some reason my mouse has stopped working. I am really not very good with gadgets!!
